The Factory Project

Dear Friends,

Welcome to our corner of the world, a place where we manipulate square, round, and fluid shaped pegs in a vast and crazy sphere. No, really, it’s a place where we observe, reflect, and expose—a place where we work hard and create movement books of many topics.

Watching a Kista Tucker piece is a transformative experience. It’s watching a piece of art or painting come to life. I enjoy gaining insight into the world she constructs through the distinctively creative choices she makes with choreography. Her works are living, breathing, modern masterpieces.

Stephanie Hall

Much of my time prior to COVID-19 was spent tending to activities such as visiting the Netherlands Dans Theater in The Hague, adjudicating for The American College Dance Association (ACDA), creating new works, teaching, touring, and pulling things together for our evening length performances of The Factory Project: Robinson Industries. This production was tremendous!

And now, two years after Covid, we are on a bit of a different trajectory. Once we added an unusual focus and began working on a project that had been in the back of my mind for a few years, it became evident that it was time to plow deeper—and plow, we did! The result was our 27-minute, national and international award winning movie, Tales from Dapple Creek. We are more than excited about how things turned out—43 awards. Because of this, we are expanding our audience—dance and non-dance people—through our first movie and have plans to add more movies to our repertoire.

Now that Tales . . . is in the public eye, it’s clear that we need to produce additional, and even more polished—movies. For this, we truly need your help because we have to purchase a camera and its accompanying components necessary for professional productions. This equipment and supporting software will cost approximately $6,250.

Our Off the Marley: Discussions for the Curious is back. We’ve begun meeting on Thursday evenings, 8:00 p.m. (Eastern Time). Join us.

Kista Tucker Warm-Ups, this new film project is already in early stages of preparation. I’ve taught my Warm-Ups to many artists through the years and those artists are, in turn, teaching them to a new generation. It’s time for a video/film documentary of these movement clusters to be made available to a larger community.

We need your help to produce our work. Our funding target is a large one. We have to produce performances involving marvelous movement artists, a brilliant composer, and a new lighting designer. We have to rent theaters, construct costumes, produce videos to be used on stage, for promotion, and as artistic works. Your contributionsl benefit the company by helping to provide funds for upcoming projects.

We are applying to the National Endowment for the Arts for funds to assist in yet another new movie production using Tales from Dapple Creek as a prototype. After we get our new equipment the NEA project will be technically suited for more and larger venues.

My novel, Meg’s Dance, while an individual project, complements KTI’s mission statement. It’s written as much for advocacy of dance/movement arts as it is for entertainment. (It is about the life of a dancer/movement artist. There’s also a murder mystery wrapped into the story—gotta attract that new audience!)

Our work will stimulate your curiosity and invigorate your senses. Your thought processes are sure to be stroked as you follow along.

KTI movement artists and I love what we do and keep going, even in a world that tends to deny, to ignore, possibly even reject the value of art. We are developing more and more work, not only for ourselves, but to provide catalysts for understanding and inspiration—and most importantly—to provoke thought.

We hope you will continue to visit our website, a rehearsal, a performance, a workshop, our movie, or another event we sponsor. You will see for yourself why we are recognized for informing and contributing, as we do, to society. You’ve already made an impact, reconnect with us by participating in our fundraiser so we may continue to Speak the Unspeakable.

Be courageous and, Keep Going!

Kista Tucker
